Activities done by KVK Mangan North Sikkim
Farm Activities and its achievements

Mangan, North Sikkim

  • Taking care of VermiCompost which was handed over by FS & AD Deptt., the compost harvested is being used in the farm.
  • Taking care of vermi Hatchery being constructed by FS & AD Deptt.Govt. of Sikkim. FS, FS & AD Deptt. has purchased two hundred units of cocoon with mother culture.
  • The multiplication work of Earthworm species E. foetida is continuous in the farm.
  • One set Soya Paneer Plant is installed in the Agro Service Centre which is provided by FS & AD Deptt.. The demonstration on Soya Paneer making was attended by all the staffs of KVK.
  • 12 kg of Paddy variety VL-16 was cultivated in area of 0.5 ha and the yield was 112 kg due to late sowing as there was scarcity of water at the very period of sowing. The report was already submitted during review meeting.
  • 8 kg millets variety PES-95 was sown and the yield 225 kg.
  • 30 kg wheat variety UP-202 was sown in an area of 0.4 ha. The harvesting is completed and yet to be threshed. The yield may decrease because there was a incidence of rust disease.
  • Mustard variety Pusa bold and B-9 (Yellow Sarsoon) was sown. The Germination was only 10-15 % as there was lack of moisture in the soil and no timely rainfall at the time of Germination. The crop is harvested and yet threshed.
  • On Station Trial on 18 varieties Raima (Phaseohu Vulgoris) was done.
  • 1550 Nos. of seedling of cabbage & Cauli-flower were sold to farmers @ 0.50p each.
  • For seed purpose, the Radish crop is harvested and yet to be threshed.
  • Trial on evaluation of optimum time of sowing of off season Cole crops is going on in KVK farm.
  • Low cost green house has been constructed. Tomato ( Var: All rounder)under protected & unprotected condition as OST is under process for optimum healthy production.
  • Sowing of maize variety Swan composite is completed.
  • 17 varieties of Maize Hybrids for Comparative performanceamonf the given Maize Hybrids with 3 replications are going on. The seed has been given by Agriculture Department, G.Os.
  • 6 Composite varieties of Maize under Variatal trials are being performing with 3 replications each.
  • Newly established Piggery Demonstration unit comprising of 2 female and 1 Male piglets for multiplication purpose for the first instance are taking care of.
  • Newly established Cow- sheds comprising of 2 Cows and 1 Calf are taking care of.

Sowilng method:                       Heap method
Variety sown: :
                           Local cultivar
Area covered:
                            22 ft × 8 ft

 Manure and fertilizer applied:

FYM and Nalpak (Bio –fertilizer).

OFT on Chayote to obtain higher yield

II. To determine the effect of Azospirillum on the grain yield of paddy.

 Problem Diagnosed

(1)   In adequate application of nitrogenous fertilizer.
(2)   Low yield.

 Relevance:

Rice is a staple diet of the hilly people and is grown in the mid and low lying belts of the state.
Since Sikkim has been declared as an organic state, agriculture.

Technology Assessed:

Seedlings treatment with Azospirillium @ 1Kg/ 5liters of water.
